The Morgan City, Louisiana community is mourning the passing of Dr. Oliver “Conrad” Poe, 88, a retired pediatric dentist, military veteran, and longtime resident whose life was marked by service, compassion, and dedication to others.
Dr. Poe passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026. Born in Jennings, Louisiana, he built a distinguished career after earning his doctorate in dentistry from Loyola University New Orleans and completing his pediatric dentistry specialty at the University of Oregon. He operated a private pediatric dentistry practice in Morgan City for decades, while also teaching part-time at the LSU School of Dentistry and serving at the Peltier-Lawless Developmental Center.
Beyond his dental career, Dr. Poe dedicated many years to military service. He served a combined 30 years in the United States Navy active and reserve forces, reaching the rank of Captain, and later served nine years in the Louisiana National Guard, retiring as a Colonel. He was also an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and brought Holy Communion to homebound parish members.
In accordance with his wishes, Dr. Poe donated his body to the LSU School of Medicine to support medical research and education. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna Beth Poe, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. A public visitation and memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City.
Dr. Oliver “Conrad” Poe leaves behind a legacy of healing, faith, leadership, and selfless service. His contributions to his patients, community, church, and country will continue to be honored by those whose lives he touched.
